History
Cream ales are unique in the fact that they are one of the only beer styles that is indigenous to North America. Cream ales are a cross between an ale and a lager. They are fermented with ale yeast, but then they are cold aged for an extended period, much like a lager.
They are generally a golden colored, full bodied pale ale.
Abita's Select Cream Ale beer
Our Cream Ale is slightly different than most other beers of this style
because ours is a little darker and stronger. We did this to make it a
more flavorful beer since most other cream ales are fairly bland.
We used pale malt and some light colored caramel malts to give the
beer a deep golden color. These malts also give the beer a full bodied
malt character. We used North American, German and English hops
to give the beer a distinct hop flavor and aroma. The result is a bold
and flavorful ale that can be enjoyed in the spring and summer.
Food Pairings
Our cream ale is an excellent accompaniment to most dishes. It can
be paired with spicy foods, such as jambalaya and almost any gumbo.
It can also be paired with most meats, but it would be especially
good with pork dishes. This beer is very versatile and can be paired
with almost any dish, including salads.
